Description:
Join us for a webinar to learn about the installation and discharge requirements for sprinklers located in (or omitted from) combustible concealed spaces. In addition to a basic overview of types of construction and combustibility, this webinar will focus on the installation requirements for concealed spaces not requiring sprinkler protection including the sixteen (16) construction arrangements that permit sprinkler omission. In addition, this webinar will discuss the application of standard spray and special sprinklers installed within combustible concealed spaces. Finally, this webinar will review the design and discharge requirements where the participant will learn how to properly apply the 3,000 sq. ft rule.

Identify the construction components of a pitched roof
Apply the installation and discharge requirements for standard spray sprinklers
Apply the installation and discharge requirements for special sprinklers
Identify and apply all construction arrangements that permit the omission of sprinklers

Speakers:

John Denhardt, P.E., FSFPE
John August Denhardt, PE, FSFPE, is Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services. He is responsible for strengthening AFSA's engineering and technical approaches to meeting member, industry and operational priorities, with an emphasis on service, quality, and integrity.  In addition to his P.E., he is a NICET Level III in Water-Based System Layout and Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems. A native of Maryland, Denhardt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland in College Park.

Kevin Hall, P.E., MSFPE
Kevin Hall, M.Eng, P.E., MSFPE, CWBSP joined AFSA in 2020 as the Coordinator of Engineering and Technical Services. He has been in the fire protection industry for nearly 10 years. He is a registered professional engineer in Delaware and Maryland and has his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fire protection engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. Hall is a member of several NFPA technical committees, including NFPA 1 Fire Code Correlating Committee; NFPA 1 Building Systems and Special Occupancies; NFPA 1 Special Equipment, Processes, and Hazardous Materials; NFPA 3/4 Commissioning and Integrated Testing; NFPA 13 Residential Sprinkler Systems; NFPA 15 Water Spray Fixed Systems; NFPA 20 Fire Pumps; NFPA 909/914 Cultural Resources; and NFPA 915 Remote Inspections. He also represents AFSA on many UL standard technical panels (STP) involving the sprinkler industry, including STP 199 Sprinkler Equipment for Fire Protection.
