What new in Storage Occupancies? 

This presentation will cover the sprinkler requirements for storage occupancies.  Terminology, NFPA 13 requirements, and new changes to current edition of NFPA 13 for storage occupancies will be covered. 

The 2019 and 2022 editions of NFPA 13 have reorganized the storage chapters.  We will review how to find the sprinkler requirements in NFPA 13. 

Specifically, ESFR, CMDA, and CMSA sprinklers installed in storage occupancies will be reviewed. 

Different storage arrangements will be covered (i.e. Rack storage, In-rack sprinklers, shelf storage, solid pile, palletized and miscellaneous storage). 

At the end of this presentation, you should have guidance on:

              Knowledge on the different storage arrangements and sprinkler selection

Kevin J. Kelly, P.E., is a Codes and Standards Specialist for Victaulic.  Previously, he was a Fire Protection Engineer Consultant for the National Fire Sprinkler Association.  Mr. Kelly graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. degree in Fire Protection Engineering and is a Licensed Professional Engineer.  He serves on several NFPA technical committees including NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems and NFPA 914, Code for the Protection of Historic Structures.  He participates in the International Code Council’s model code development process and is a past chair of the Fire Protection Committee for the American Water Works Association.
